The RoleAs our Finance Manager, you’ll take ownership of the company’s financial operations — ensuring robust financial management, compliance, and strategic insight.
This is a hands-on role suited to a qualified accountant who enjoys both the detail of finance operations and the opportunity to shape financial strategy in a dynamic consultancy environment. You’ll work closely with our senior leadership team, supporting business planning, client profitability analysis, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Be DoingFinancial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary.
- Produce accurate and timely cash flow forecasts and financial reports.
- Lead budgeting and three-year forecasting processes.
- Provide financial insight to support decision-making and long-term planning.
- Support project profitability analysis and client pricing reviews.
Transactional & Operational Finance
- Oversee accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and banking operations.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate journal postings.
- Manage VAT returns, HMRC filings, and ensure full compliance with UK financial regulations.
- Liaise with external accountants for annual accounts, audits, and statutory reporting.
- Manage relationships with banking partners and optimise cash flow.
- Maintain and enhance internal financial controls and processes.
Business Partnering & Leadership
- Partner with the Directors and other teams to build financial awareness and accountability.
- Provide financial input to client and subcontractor contracts and negotiations.
- Support pricing strategies and commercial models for consulting projects.
- Manage and develop junior finance staff.
Essential:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- At least 4 years’ experience in a finance role, ideally within an SME or consultancy environment.
- Strong understanding of UK accounting standards, VAT, and tax compliance.
- Proficiency in cloud-based finance systems (Xero preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-oriented environment.
Desirable:
- Experience managing subcontractors and IR35 compliance.
- Familiarity with project accounting or time-based billing models.
- Experience with government or public sector contracts.
