Interaction Designer
On behalf of DWP, we are looking for an Interaction Designer for a 12 month contract (Inside IR35) based Hybrid in Manchester or Newcastle. Join DWP as an Interaction Designer working on the Tell Us Once (TUO) service - A critical government platform that helps people manage life events. This is a unique opportunity to improve the existing user interface, making it more accessible, user-friendly and aligned with modern GOV.UK standards, based on research and evidence. You’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary Agile team, collaborating with Content Designers, User Researchers and other specialists to deliver designs that meet WCAG 2.2 accessibility guidelines and the GOV.UK Service Standard. As an Interaction Designer your main responsibilities will be to:
* Work closely with Content Designers and User Researchers to ensure designs meet WCAG 2.2 compliance, use Government design standards and meet user needs.
* Collaborate on user research to understand the needs of diverse users, including those with accessibility needs or low digital confidence.
* Use tools like Lucid or GitHub to help create prototypes.
* Apply GOV.UK Design System components to test designs with real users and iterate based on feedback.
* Map user journeys across service to identify pain points and opportunities.
* Participate in Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and align with product/service requirements. Essential:
* Experience designing government services to GDS standards.
* Hands on experience with GOV.UK Prototype Kit or similar tools.
* Familiarity with WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards. Desirable:
* Experience of system design and Agile ways of working.
* Knowledge of the CDDO service standards.
* Familiarity with Confluence, Jira, and JavaScript (Nunjucks). Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
