Java Engineriing Manager
Role: Engineering Manager (Java / Kotlin)
Salary: £110,000 – £120,000 + Bonus
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days per week in office)
We are working with a well-known UK household name undergoing a major digital and engineering transformation, investing heavily in modernising its platforms and building high-performing product teams.

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of engineers building highly scalable, customer-facing systems. This is not a purely hands-off role; they are looking for someone who can operate closely with the technology, guide technical decisions, and bring credibility to the team.
You will be responsible for delivery, team performance and engineering quality, while working closely with Product and other stakeholders to drive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and developing a team , creating a high-performing and collaborative environment
- Owning delivery across your team, ensuring high-quality and scalable solutions
- Working closely with Product to define priorities and shape the roadmap
- Remaining close to the technology, guiding architectural and design decisions
- Driving engineering best practices across quality, testing, and CI/CD
- Supporting hiring, mentoring and growing engineering talent
- Balancing speed of delivery with long-term platform quality and scalability
Tech Environment
- Java and Kotlin
- Microservices architecture
- Cloud-based infrastructure (AWS or similar)
- CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
- Event-driven systems and distributed architecture
About You
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or Tech Lead stepping into management
- Strong background in Java/Kotlin and backend system design
- Still hands-on or recently hands-on with the ability to guide technical decisions
- Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams
- Strong stakeholder management and product collaboration skills
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments
- Passionate about building quality products and developing people
