Senior Head of Engineering – Central Platforms

A major organisation undergoing significant digital and enterprise platform transformation is seeking a Senior Head of Engineering to lead the technical strategy, engineering capability and long‐term evolution of its central platforms — including SAP (ECC, S/4HANA, BTP) and a large‐scale HCM platform (Oracle HCM).

This is a pivotal leadership role shaping the future of Finance and People systems across a complex, high‐volume, business‐critical environment.

The Opportunity

You’ll set the engineering vision for central enterprise platforms at a critical moment in their transformation — decommissioning SAP ECC, enabling a successful move to S/4HANA for Finance, and ensuring the organisation’s HCM platform remains stable, secure and continuously improving.

You’ll lead multi‐disciplinary engineering teams spanning SAP Functional, ABAP, BTP, Basis, Testing, Integration and HCM delivery. Working closely with Product, Architecture, Platform Engineering and Delivery, you’ll ensure solutions are robust, resilient and built for long‐term success.

This role requires a leader who combines strategic thinking with deep technical judgement, and who can uplift engineering standards across a complex estate.

What You’ll Lead

• Long‐term engineering strategy for SAP (ECC, S/4HANA, BTP, integration) and the organisation’s HCM platform
• ECC decommissioning and technical enablement of the S/4HANA Finance programme
• Engineering quality, release cadence, configuration strategy and run health for the HCM platform
• High‐performing engineering teams across SAP and HCM disciplines
• Adoption of engineering excellence — CI/CD, automation, observability, security and SRE practices
• Practical use of Agentic AI to improve quality, flow and operational stability
• Technology standards, engineering frameworks and ways of working across the central estate
• Partner and vendor strategy, balancing internal capability with external expertise

What You Bring

• Deep understanding of SAP ECC and S/4HANA from both a technical and solution perspective
• Proven leadership of SAP engineering disciplines (Functional, ABAP, BTP, Basis, Testing, Integration)
• Strong working knowledge of Oracle HCM or similar enterprise HR platforms
• Experience leading large‐scale decommissioning, migration or S/4HANA programmes
• A track record of driving engineering excellence in SAP and SaaS/HCM environments
• Experience operating in a modern product and platform model
• Strong stakeholder influence across Finance, HR, Technology and senior leadership
• A passion for building high‐performing teams and delivering high‐quality, resilient platforms
