About the role:

The Data Analyst Apprentice will play a key role in supporting Specialist Sports’ mission to make data-driven decisions across every department. Working within the Business Intelligence team, this role will focus on creating clear, insightful reports and dashboards that drive commercial understanding, influence decision making and operational efficiency across the business.

This is an entry-level position offering structured development, mentorship, and support to achieve a degree-level qualification through an accredited apprenticeship programme.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports for Sales, Marketing, Finance and Operations teams.
  • Support the development of data models and datasets using Microsoft Fabric, Power BI and Business Central.
  • Produce commercial analysis and insights leveraging datasets, analytic tools and AI to inform business decisions.
  • Lead and deliver reporting projects from day one, with scope to take ownership of larger analytical projects as experience grows.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand reporting needs and translate them into effective data solutions.
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy and consistency across reporting platforms.
  • Develop technical skills in DAX and Python under the guidance of the Business Intelligence Manager.
  • Support the implementation of new analytics software and construction of datasets with the opportunity to lead these projects as the business embraces new opportunities.
  • Present analysis, findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders in a clear and structured manner.

Required skills:

  • Strong numerical and analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Confident using Excel and a passion for data and technology.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with colleagues at all levels.
  • A proactive, curious approach to problem solving and puzzles.
  • Desire to learn and develop technical skills (Power BI, DAX, Python).

The following experience would also be beneficial:

  • Experience or exposure to Power BI, Python or SQL-based analysis.
  • Understanding of business systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Entry requirements:

Standard entry:

  • Level 3 qualification (apprenticeship/A-levels/BTEC, etc)
  • OR equivalent work experience (typically two years in a relevant role)

Plus:

  • 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above 
  • Experience with using Excel and Microsoft products (or similar)

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week, 9am - 5:30pm.
