About the role:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Software Developer Apprentice to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone at the start of their software development career who is eager to learn while gaining hands-on experience.

The position is split between software development (50%) and customer service/support (50%), providing a well-rounded foundation in both technical and customer-facing skills. You will work closely with experienced developers and support staff while completing a recognised Software Development apprenticeship.

Responsibilities:

Software development:

  • Assist in the development, testing, maintenance and deployment of software applications
  • Learn and work with technologies including .NET, Microsoft SQL Server, Java
  • Write clean, maintainable code under guidance from senior developers
  • Fix bugs and contribute to system improvements
  • Participate in code reviews and development meetings
  • Document code and technical processes where required

Customer service & support:

  • Provide first-line technical support to customers via phone, email, or ticketing system
  • Investigate and resolve basic software and system issues
  • Install Agility products at customer sites
  • Produce documentation for new and existing functionality
  • Log support requests and maintain accurate records
  • One week per month out of hours support, after 6 months of employment

Required skills:

  • Strong interest in software development and technology
  • Willingness to learn multiple programming languages and tools
  • Basic understanding of programming concepts (through study, self-learning, or projects)
  • Good communication skills and a positive, customer-focused attitude
  • Ability to manage time effectively and balance development and support tasks

Additionally, the following experience would be beneficial:

  • Any exposure to .NET, SQL, Java, Python, or PowerShell
  • Experience in a customer service or IT support environment
  • Personal projects, coursework, or portfolio demonstrating interest in coding

Entry requirements:

  • 7 GCSEs total
  • English GCSE grade D or above
  • Other 6 GCSEs, including Maths, to be C or above
  • You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship in a similar subject

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week
