Senior Front-End Web Developer

Role Description

We are looking for a Senior Front-End Web Developer to join the Web Team within the Communications Department at Queen Mary University of London. The Senior Front-end Web Developer will work with the Head of Web Development, to understand and plan for strategic institutional and team goals. You'll be responsible for leading the technical and user interface (UI) development, and maintenance of Queen Mary's website and related web presence, supporting the university to achieve student recruitment and marketing goals. You'll work with the Website Product Manager to ensure key strategic teamwork is planned and executed effectively across the team using an agile approach.

You'll be versed in solving technical issues, delivering design and implementation products and collaborating with non-technical or multidisciplinary teams. You'll help bring best practices and innovation to Queen Mary, driving positive change and excellence in our digital initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical delivery of university-wide digital design, web development, support, and end-user training programmes.
  • Work with the Head of Web Development to define and implement web development strategies aligned to institutional goals.
  • Design, develop and maintain high-quality, accessible, and standards-compliant web solutions across Queen Mary's web presence.
  • Capture and analyse user requirements and website analytics to inform continuous improvement and user-centred design.
  • Provide functional and technical leadership for website management across the University, setting standards for excellence.
  • Integrate third-party systems and APIs to enhance functionality and streamline web development processes.
  • Coach, guide and support junior team members to maintain high technical standards and team effectiveness.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of technical projects and ensure lessons learned and best practice are embedded in future work.

You will join a forward-thinking solution-focused Web team within the External Relations Directorate. Our directorate is responsible for raising the awareness and reputation of Queen Mary among its target audiences, and for increasing the quality and quantity of Queen Mary applicants. We collaborate with stakeholders, we support staff, students and prospective students to achieve more.
