Contract Rate: £420-£500 per day inside IR35

Working Pattern: Office based - 5 days per week onsite for SC eligible candidates / Hybrid - 2 to 3 days per week onsite for SC cleared candidates

Duration: 6 months initially

Clearance: SC Cleared / SC Eligible

Role Overview

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Power System Network Model Engineer with expertise in Transmission EMS Network Modelling and Power System Applications.

You will be responsible for enhancing, maintaining and validating the EMS Network Model, ensuring accurate representation of transmission assets, network topology, connectivity, telemetry and operational equipment. The role supports critical EMS functions including Network Topology Processing, State Estimation, Load Flow Analysis, Contingency Analysis and Real-Time Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enhance Transmission EMS Network Models.
  • Create and manage device relationships across substations, busbars, circuit breakers, disconnectors, transformers, transmission lines, generators, reactive compensation devices, HVDC assets and SCADA telemetry points.
  • Build and maintain accurate connectivity and topology models.
  • Perform model validation, quality assurance and data integrity checks.
  • Support commissioning activities, network changes and asset updates.
  • Ensure consistency between EMS, SCADA, GIS, Asset Management and Planning systems.
  • Investigate and resolve model discrepancies impacting EMS applications.
  • Support State Estimation, Network Topology Processing, Power Flow and Contingency Analysis functions.
  • Participate in model migrations, system upgrades and integration activities.
  • Develop technical documentation, modelling standards and operational procedures.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in Transmission EMS Network Modelling and Power System Applications.
  • Expertise in device relationship creation, network connectivity modelling and transmission network topology.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Substation Configurations
  • State Estimation
  • Load Flow & Contingency Analysis
  • Operational Power System Principles
  • Experience with GE PowerOn and/or GE XA/21.
  • Knowledge of IEC CIM standards (IEC 61970/61968).
  • Experience with SCADA point-to-device mapping and telemetry modelling.
  • Understanding of SQL, XML and automation scripting (Python preferred).
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years' experience within Power System Network Modelling, EMS Applications or Utility OT environments.
  • Experience working with TSOs, ISOs, Utilities or Control Centres.
