Mobile Backend Developer (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Manchester

Hybrid: 3 days onsite (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)

Contract: 6 months initially

Day Rate: £400–£450 per day (Inside IR35)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Application Engineer with deep expertise in backend cloud-based application development. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will shape strategy, mentor junior engineers, and foster a strong developer community. You'll champion best practices such as TDD and BDD, ensuring high-quality deliverables across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide advanced technical expertise in backend development and deliver practical solutions.
• Participate in all phases of the SDLC: requirements, development, deployment, and maintenance.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and apply emerging technologies to drive innovation.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across teams.
• Collaborate with technical leads, IT teams, and business stakeholders to align on requirements.
• Review technical documentation and suggest improvements.
• Promote best practices like TDD and BDD for maintainable, high-quality code.
• Apply design patterns for scalable, efficient, and reusable solutions.
• Ensure compliance with IT and Information Security policies.

Your Profile

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Strong experience in backend development for mobile applications.
• Building distributed, scalable microservices using Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, OAuth 2.0, and secure API design.
• Understanding of API design for mobile apps with event-driven architecture.
• AWS and Automation Testing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of the financial services industry.
