PSA Engineer – Network / Transmission

Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid)

Contract Length: 6 months initially

Start Date: ASAP

Day Rate: £425 per day (Inside IR35)

The Role

We're looking for an experienced PSA Engineer (Network/Transmission) to join a leading energy technology organisation on a contract basis. You'll play a key role in the development, customization, and delivery of advanced Power Systems Application (PSA) software, supporting critical systems for Electric Utilities, ISOs, and TSOs.

You'll collaborate across engineering and customer teams to define functional specifications, design and develop system components, and ensure the reliable delivery of high-performance Energy Management Systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver advanced Power Systems Application (PSA) software solutions.
  • Collaborate with Electric Utilities, ISOs, and TSOs on software specifications and implementation.
  • Perform design, coding, testing, integration, and tuning of applications.
  • Configure and maintain real-time or mission-critical systems.
  • Support patching, upgrades, and installation of third-party software (Oracle, NetApp, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues on live customer systems.

Your Profile

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years' experience delivering and customizing Energy Management Systems (preferably e-terra AEMS – Reliance).
  • Experience working on Power Systems applications for transmission (Load flow, contingency analysis, Power Factor etc).
  • Strong programming background in C++, Java, and/or C.
  • Hands-on experience with AEMS Reliance design and development.
  • Proficient with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle databases, SQL, and shell scripting.
  • Practical experience with GitHub and ClearCase for version control.
  • Proven experience supporting real-time or mission-critical systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to debug and resolve issues quickly.
  • Experience with Reliance (formerly XA/21) is highly desirable.

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming, Oracle, and system administration.
