Solution Architect
Job Title: GIS Solution Architect (Contract)
Location: Reading, UK
Working Model: Hybrid / Remote (up to 2 days onsite per week)
Contract Length: 6 months
Rate: IR35 – Rate Negotiable
The Role
We are looking for an experienced GIS Solution Architect to design and deliver end-to-end enterprise GIS solutions using the Esri ArcGIS ecosystem . You will lead architecture design, cloud deployment, and integration across large-scale utility environments, with a strong focus on Utility Network implementations.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect end-to-end GIS solutions using Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related technologies
- Design scalable enterprise GIS architectures, preferably within Azure cloud environments
- Lead solution blueprinting, conceptual and logical architecture, and integration models
- Design and implement ArcGIS Utility Network solutions (water utilities experience preferred)
- Develop and integrate GIS services including feature, map, and geoprocessing services
- Support cloud deployments using CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices
- Implement security, identity integration (SAML, OAuth, ADFS), and high-availability setups
- Collaborate with stakeholders, architects, SMEs, and delivery teams
- Run technical workshops, solution walkthroughs, and design reviews
Essential Skills & Experience
- 8+ years’ experience in GIS and solution architecture roles
- Strong hands-on experience with Esri ArcGIS platform
- Proven experience with Utility Network Model (UNM)
- Proficiency in Python / ArcPy and ArcGIS APIs
- Experience with geodatabase design, SQL, and spatial analysis
- Cloud GIS deployment experience (Azure or AWS)
- Strong understanding of enterprise architecture principles
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Desirable
- Water utilities or wider utilities sector experience
- Esri certifications (Enterprise Administration, Web App Developer)
- Experience with data migration and enterprise system integrations
