Location: England, UK (This role is fully remote - s ome ad-hoc travel may be requested

Contract: 3 Months + Potential Extensions

Overview

We’re looking for an experienced Backend Developer with strong microservices, cloud, and security expertise to help deliver large-scale government digital services. You’ll focus on backend architecture, API development, cloud operations, and secure, event-driven integrations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using JavaScript, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs , ensuring high performance and scalability.
• Design and manage microservices architectures , deploying on Kubernetes (EKS) and Docker , and implementing robust CI/CD pipelines .
• Integrate backend systems using Kafka for event-driven processing and NoSQL databases (MongoDB/DocumentDB) for data storage.
• Implement security measures including IDAM/IdP, SSO, RBAC, SSL/TLS, KMS , and Graph API to protect applications and data.
• Monitor and optimise cloud operations on AWS , leveraging telemetry, logging, and performance monitoring tools.

Key Requirements:

• Strong experience with JavaScript, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs
• Hands-on with Kubernetes (EKS), Docker, and AWS monitoring
• Knowledge of Kafka, NoSQL databases, and modern security practices
• Proven track record in CI/CD, Git workflows, and delivering backend services at scale
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet high standards of security, performance, and reliability
