Contract: 3 Month Rolling Contract
Rate: 500 per day (Umbrella)
Location: London - Hybrid (2 days onsite, 3 days remote)

A leading London public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Senior AWS Cloud Engineer to join their growing Cloud & Infrastructure team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a large-scale cloud transformation programme, helping modernise critical services that support hundreds of thousands of users.

You'll work within a multidisciplinary technology team responsible for designing, building and supporting secure, scalable cloud infrastructure while driving automation, resilience and continuous improvement across the estate.



The Role

As the Senior AWS Cloud Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership across cloud infrastructure, DevOps and platform engineering. You'll be responsible for designing and maintaining highly available AWS environments, supporting business-critical applications and implementing Infrastructure as Code and automation best practices.

Working closely with architects, software engineers, security specialists and service teams, you'll help shape cloud standards and ensure platforms remain secure, performant and cost-effective.



Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and optimise secure AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Deliver Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and other automation tools.
  • Maintain highly available cloud platforms supporting critical business services.
  • Improve platform reliability, monitoring, alerting and operational resilience.
  • Support cloud migration and modernisation initiatives.
  • Manage Windows and Linux server environments hosted within AWS.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines and automation across infrastructure deployments.
  • Work closely with development teams to enable self-service infrastructure.
  • Champion cloud security, governance and best practice.
  • Support networking, identity management and hybrid cloud connectivity.
  • Lead technical investigations, problem management and root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, technical standards and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance across the wider team.
  • Participate in an on-call rota where required.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience designing and supporting AWS cloud environments.
  • Excellent knowledge of core AWS services including EC2, VPC, IAM, Route 53, S3, CloudWatch, RDS and networking.
  • Proven experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash and/or Python).
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.
  • Experience managing Windows Server and Linux environments.
  • Good understanding of cloud security, identity management and compliance.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging and observability platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance optimisation skills.
  • Comfortable working within Agile, DevOps and multidisciplinary delivery teams.


Desirable

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent AWS certification.
  • Experience working within complex enterprise or public sector environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure AD/Entra ID and hybrid identity.
  • Experience supporting digital transformation or cloud migration programmes.
  • Familiarity with ITIL service management practices.
