Network Engineer

A newly launched systematic hedge fund is building out its core technology platform and is seeking a Network Engineer to help design, deploy, and operate its global network infrastructure. This is a rare opportunity to join early, take real ownership, and shape the networking stack that underpins low-latency trading, research, and production systems from day one.

Working closely with senior engineering leadership, quantitative researchers, and developers across London and the U.S., you will play a hands-on role in supporting performance-critical environments where reliability, speed, and automation matter. The role offers significant scope for technical influence, learning, and progression as the fund scales.

The position is based in London and requires strong communication skills, a pragmatic problem-solving mindset, and a willingness to operate in a fast-moving trading environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and support high-performance network infrastructure
  • Diagnose and resolve network incidents impacting research and trading systems
  • Support low-latency, multi-region environments across on-prem and cloud
  • Partner with engineers and quants to improve performance, resiliency, and observability
  • Contribute to automation and infrastructure-as-code initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • Solid grounding in networking fundamentals (BGP, OSPF, TCP/IP, L2/L3 routing and switching)
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise switching and routing platforms (e.g. Cisco, Arista, Juniper)
  • Understanding of core security concepts (ACLs, firewalls, network segmentation)
  • Familiarity with automation or scripting (Python, Ansible, Terraform, Chef/Puppet)
  • Experience working with Linux systems and the Linux networking stack
  • Willingness to participate in on-call and occasional weekend support

Nice to Have

  • Experience in low-latency trading or multi-data-center environments
  • Exposure to cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with NetOps practices and tooling (Git, CI/CD, Terraform, monitoring/alerting systems)
