Lead Laboratory Accessioner

Role summary: day-to-day lead for accessioning; manage workflow assignment and cross-functional troubleshooting to ensure timely and accurate specimen processing.

Site-specific note Bristol includes scanner allocation/troubleshooting and high-volume slide management.

Duration: 6 Months

Pay rate: £26,510 per annum



Key responsibilities

  • Monitor throughput and assign tasks; maintain accurate records, tier boards, and communications.
  • Work with peers across group and pathology operations lead to ensure pathology rotas are up to date and work allocation is fairly assigned.
  • Manage site pathology rotas across all laboratory working days, and respond to any unplanned absence.
  • Manage slide storage, slide recovery and allocation of slides for further molecular testing, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry. Support specimen receipt, staging, and storage;
  • Coordinate purchasing to maintain par levels; track usage and inventory of accessioning supplies Orchestrate scanner throughput; perform first-line scanner troubleshooting and escalation.
  • Lead exception/rejection process oversight and ensure timely resolution of problematic samples.
  • Audit accession-to-billing and escalate to Customer Relations for correction and prevention.
  • Support Customer Service function; monitoring email, and handling phone calls.
  • Support, data collection, continuous improvement initiatives, and quality assurance efforts.


Qualifications

  • GCSEs or equivalent; Associate degree preferred.
  • 2+ years accessioning/data entry or supervisory experience; LIMS proficiency.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.


Physical requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; stand/walk for extended periods; wear PPE as required.


Additional site-common responsibilities

  • Client account setup and data hygiene (HubSpot to Pathport/MediLIMS), including address/contact validation and GDPR-compliant corrections.
  • Courier booking and missed-collection liaison with Logistics; track send-away shipments and results to closure.
  • KPI reporting cadence for service quality and operational exceptions; early escalation of at-risk turnaround cases.
