Lead – Data Models for Microsoft Fabric

About the Role
Seeking an experienced Lead, Data Models for Microsoft Fabric to spearhead the design and oversight of semantic data models, metadata, and end-to-end lineage. This senior, hands-on role ensures full data traceability from ingestion to consumption for quality reporting, strong governance, and confident decision-making. You will build and manage robust master data and metadata, ensuring definition, risk-assessment, and alignment with enterprise standards. Collaborate closely with Data Architecture, BI & Analytics, and Change Engineering to underpin all reporting with high-quality semantic models, logical lineage, and data glossaries.
Key Responsibilities
Metadata & Lineage
- Partner with business analysts and solution designers to embed metadata capture into change and operational processes.
- Maintain metadata and process mapping artefacts, escalating issues and resolving gaps where needed.
- Oversee logical and physical lineage across data domains, ensuring accurate mapping to Microsoft Fabric and Purview.
Enterprise Data Models
- Co-lead with data architects on developing enterprise and system-supporting data models.
- Identify and define ontology, semantics, and support knowledge graph initiatives.
- Contribute to logical data modelling and co-own master data management frameworks.
- Maintain documentation in Confluence and support business updates for reports and models.
Critical Data Management
- Support the definition and management of critical data using tools such as Solidatus and Purview.
- Maintain logical lineage for critical data elements and lead conversations with stakeholders to address lineage issues.
Data Management Tooling & Platforms
- Support implementation and enhancement of Purview within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.
- Assist with integrating Solidatus, Aperture and other metadata platforms with enterprise tooling.
- Contribute to automation initiatives and develop improved metadata and lineage metrics.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience as a Metadata Manager, Metadata Architect, or similar.
- Demonstrable success implementing improvements in metadata tooling and processes.
- Strong experience designing metadata/lineage controls and producing lineage metrics/KPIs.
- Knowledge of DAMA, EDM or other industry best-practice frameworks.
- Proficiency with metadata technologies and lineage visualisation.
- Strong understanding of logical data modelling and data normalisation.
Highly Desirable
- Experience in Investment or Commercial Banking, Asset Management, or related financial services.
- Experience managing mixed teams (direct and indirect reports).
- Skilled in running stakeholder requirements sessions and owning user story backlogs.
- Architecture framework qualification or experience (e.g., TOGAF).
