About the Role

The DT Technician will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the Design & Technology department. Working closely with teaching staff, the post holder will ensure all workshop machinery, tools, and digital technology are prepped, safe, and ready for practical lessons. This role involves managing workshop stock, assisting students with practical tasks under teacher supervision, and maintaining strict health and safety protocols across workshops, CAD/CAM suites, and practical classrooms.

Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a DT Technician, ideally within a secondary school or educational setting.
  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
  • In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety regulations, COSHH, and safety standards in a workshop environment.
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare workshop materials, machinery, and specialised tools required for practical DT lessons.
  • Maintain, service, and perform routine health and safety checks on workshop machinery and hand tools.
  • Monitor and manage department inventory, ordering stock, timber, plastics, and metals as required.
  • Support classroom teachers by assisting students with practical techniques and machine operation during lessons.
  • Enforce strict Health and Safety, COSHH, and risk assessment standards across all DT facilities.
  • Maintain CAD/CAM equipment, 3D printers, and laser cutters, ensuring software and hardware function smoothly.
  • Keep all workshops, preparation rooms, and storage areas clean, organised, and secure.
  • Dispose of waste materials safely and in accordance with local environmental and school guidelines.
  • Assist in setting up and displaying student work for moderation, open evenings, and exhibitions.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to teaching staff on specialised equipment.
