Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and technically skilled Field Service Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of Rapiscan’s X-ray screening systems. You will work across our full product range—including X-ray, CT, Checkpoint, and Trace detection systems—ensuring optimal performance and customer satisfaction. This position primarily covers Northern Regions.
Responsibilities
As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, and ongoing support of Rapiscan’s X-ray, CT, Checkpoint, and Trace detection systems at customer sites—primarily across the North regions with occasional assignments throughout the UK and internationally. Your duties will include performing both preventive and corrective maintenance, conducting service site surveys before installations, and producing professional site reports.
- You will respond to service call-outs and work within shift patterns to support key customer sites. Additionally, you will provide remote technical assistance to distributor engineers and customers to ensure the timely resolution of technical issues.
- Collaboration is a key part of this role. You will work closely with Project Managers during system rollouts, coordinate with Logistics and Engineering teams to ensure timely delivery and configuration of equipment, and liaise with Quality Assurance to report and resolve recurring technical issues. You may also support Sales and Product Line Management by providing technical insights during customer demonstrations or feedback sessions.
- Timely submission of service documentation, including service and non-conformance reports, is expected.
- You will also contribute valuable feedback to the Engineering team, Product Line Management, and Quality Assurance as part of our continuous improvement initiatives. .
Experience Required
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in field service engineering, with hands-on experience supporting complex electrical/mechanical systems.
- With a minimum of 4–5 years of relevant field experience. The candidate must have an Electrical/Engineering qualification, or a minimum 2–3 years of experience with a BSc in Engineering.
- Candidates should demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills, with the ability to logically diagnose and resolve issues in high-end systems.
- Experience with X-ray or computed tomography (CT) systems is a significant advantage, as is familiarity with PLC programming.
- While not essential, experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows-based servers and workstations is highly desirable. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to customers and stakeholders.
- A good general knowledge of mechanical, electrical, civil, hydraulic, electronic, or high-voltage (HV) systems, particularly in medical or industrial engineering contexts, is beneficial. However, not all technical disciplines are required, as full training will be provided.
- The role requires flexibility, a proactive attitude, and the ability to adapt to changing project demands.
- Candidates must be self-motivated, capable of working under pressure, and willing to travel extensively throughout North East regions and occasionally overseas, including stays of up to two weeks at a time.
- The ability to obtain airport security passes (which may involve a criminal record check) and meet SC Clearance requirements is essential - you must have a UK Passport.
- The candidate must hold a full UK Licence. Certifications in IT (e.g., Microsoft, Cisco) are considered a plus, and a strong aptitude for learning new technologies is highly valued.
