DevOps Engineer

DevOps Engineer - Hybrid in Belfast| Full-time

Our client, a global technology business running a high-traffic, Java-based digital platform, is hiring a DevOps Engineer I to support and evolve their cloud infrastructure. This role sits within an international DevOps function and works closely with software engineers, QA, and operations teams to ensure systems are reliable, observable, and scalable.

You'll be part of a team responsible for modern cloud environments built primarily on AWS, with a strong focus on automation, platform stability, and continuous improvement. The position offers hands-on exposure to production systems, cloud migrations, and modern DevOps tooling, making it ideal for an engineer looking to deepen their operational and cloud expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance automated build and deployment pipelines across multiple environments
  • Support live production systems, including participation in on-call rotations and incident resolution
  • Improve system visibility through monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance metrics
  • Assist with transitioning legacy and customer-managed environments into cloud-based infrastructure
  • Design, provision, and manage AWS resources using infrastructure-as-code approaches
  • Develop scripts and internal tools that streamline workflows and reduce operational overhead
  • Promote DevOps best practices, collaboration, and shared responsibility across teams
  • Participate in operational processes such as change management, incident response, and resilience planning
  • Work with engineering groups across the wider organisation to align tooling, standards, and platform design

Core Requirements

  • A degree in a technical discipline or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Practical experience managing Linux-based systems
  • Ability to write scripts in languages such as Bash, Python, or PowerShell
  • Working knowledge of AWS services and cloud concepts
  • Experience with container technologies and container orchestration platforms
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts, automated releases, and version control systems
  • Confidence diagnosing issues in complex, distributed environments
  • Clear communication skills and a strong approach to documentation

Additional Experience That's a Plus

  • Involvement in cloud migration projects, particularly from on-premise environments
  • Experience supporting Java applications in production
  • Exposure to tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Familiarity with modern monitoring and observability platforms
  • Understanding of networking concepts within cloud architectures
  • Experience working within structured IT service or incident management frameworks
  • Exposure to sports, leisure, or booking technology platforms
