Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (AWS)

Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (AWS)

Salary: £55,000–£60,000 + benefits (flexible for exceptional candidates)

Location: Greater Manchester

Working pattern: Hybrid, 2–3 days onsite

The role We are supporting a large, mission-led organisation in Greater Manchester with the hire of an experienced Cloud Infrastructure Engineer (AWS).

This is a hands-on infrastructure role, focused on designing, building, and operating a secure and resilient AWS platform. It is not a DevOps or CI/CD-focused position. The successful candidate will work at platform level, owning infrastructure design decisions and working closely with internal engineering and security teams.

The environment supports business-critical and highly sensitive data, so strong fundamentals in networking, security, and operational resilience are essential.

What you will be doing

  • Designing and implementing AWS infrastructure at platform level
  • Building and maintaining secure AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, DNS, firewalls, and hybrid connectivity
  • Supporting the migration of systems and services from on-premise to AWS
  • Working with development teams to deliver compute, storage, database, and container services
  • Implementing and operating security controls in line with best practice and organisational standards
  • Ensuring logging, monitoring, and alerting are in place and integrated with central security tooling
  • Maintaining disaster recovery and backup strategies
  • Tracking cloud usage and costs, and supporting cost optimisation and reporting
  • Producing clear technical documentation and architectural diagrams

What we are looking for

This role will suit someone with a strong traditional infrastructure background who has moved into cloud engineering.

Essential experience

  • Significant experience in infrastructure engineering roles
  • Strong hands-on AWS experience, including design and build
  • Deep understanding of networking concepts and architecture
  • Linux systems administration experience
  • Experience designing and operating secure, production AWS environments
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions
  • Confident explaining and defending infrastructure designs

Desirable experience

  • Hybrid environments (on-premise to AWS)
  • Infrastructure as Code using CloudFormation or Terraform
  • AWS security tooling and logging services
  • Container platforms such as ECS, Kubernetes, or Docker
  • Experience working in regulated or security-conscious environments

Interview process

The interview process includes a technical whiteboarding exercise focused on AWS network and infrastructure design, followed by a competency-based interview. Candidates should be comfortable explaining design decisions clearly and practically.

Why apply

  • Work on a large-scale, meaningful cloud platform
  • Strong focus on infrastructure quality, security, and design
  • Hybrid working model
  • Learning budget and protected time for professional development
  • Long-term stability within a well-funded organisation
  • Office relocation to Manchester Science Park planned for late 2026
