Role Overview
We are looking for a commercially focused Commercial Finance Manager who will play a key role in driving profitability and improving performance across the business.
This is not a traditional accounting or reporting role. It is a commercially driven position, acting as an internal adviser to the business. The focus is on analysing financial and operational data, identifying trends, improving margins, reviewing expenditure, and helping the business make better commercial decisions.
The successful individual will work closely with senior leaders to provide meaningful insight, support bids and tenders, assess project profitability, and help monetise services and initiatives effectively. The overall objective of this role is to increase profitability, strengthen commercial discipline, and improve ways of working across the organisation while supporting business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Business Partnering
- Act as a trusted commercial adviser to senior leadership and operational teams.
- Analyse revenue, costs, and margins to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Provide clear financial insight to support strategic and operational decision-making.
- Challenge assumptions and highlight risks and opportunities.
- Support pricing strategy and margin improvement initiatives.
Profitability & Performance Improvement
- Review expenditure across the business and identify cost efficiencies.
- Analyse project and contract profitability, identifying opportunities to improve margins.
- Support the monetisation of projects, services, and new initiatives.
- Identify underperforming areas and recommend practical improvements.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial performance and commercial awareness.
Bids, Tenders & Commercial Analysis
- Provide financial input into bids, tenders, and new business opportunities.
- Build financial models to assess risk, return, and long-term value.
- Support the development of business cases and investment appraisals.
- Ensure commercial proposals are aligned to profitability targets.
Planning, Forecasting & Insight
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes for commercial areas of the business.
- Identify key performance drivers and provide forward-looking analysis.
- Deliver clear reporting on revenue, margins, and business performance.
- Translate financial data into practical, actionable insight for non-finance stakeholders.
Process & Commercial Controls
- Review and improve financial and commercial processes where required.
- Strengthen governance around forecasts, assumptions, and business cases.
- Use data to recommend better ways of working across the organisation.
Experience & Background
Essential
- Proven experience in a commercially focused finance role (Commercial Finance, FP&A or Business Partnering).
- Strong experience analysing financial data to drive improved profitability.
- Experience working closely with senior stakeholders to support decision-making.
- Experience supporting bids, tenders, or investment cases.
- Strong understanding of financial modelling, budgeting, and forecasting.
Preferred
- Experience within managed services, outsourced sales, technology, or a similar commercial environment.
Qualifications
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
