Technical Architect (Retail, Travel & E-Commerce)

Location: Greater London (North London)

On-site: 5 days initially (half day on Friday), 4 would be considered. Moving to hybrid model once embedded

This is an opporrunity for a hands-on technical leader or Architect with real-world experience in retail, travel, or high-volume e-commerce environments . You’ll own the architecture, codebase, integrations, and security posture across a multi-site retail operation, ensuring the systems are fast, resilient, secure, and commercially aligned. You will be a key member of the team as they embark on a total digital overhaul and transformation.

What You’ll Lead

Technical Ownership

  • Act as the senior developer and architect for all systems powering stores, production, POS, loyalty, and website.
  • Design and implement SOA, ensuring all retail and e-commerce systems integrate cleanly and scale reliably.
  • Own CIAM, security rules, and token management (OAuth2/OIDC).
  • Ensure store and site performance through well-architected, low-latency solutions.

DevOps, Cloud & Compliance

  • Own cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP), IaC, CI/CD, and cost optimisation.
  • Lead compliance across PCI-DSS, CIS, and ISO 27001.
  • Build full observability across all retail + digital channels.

Leadership & Commercial Delivery

  • Mentor a small specialist team while remaining fully hands-on.
  • Translate retail and e-commerce goals (Click & Collect, Headless, omnichannel) into robust, scalable technical solutions.
  • Communicate technical trade-offs to stakeholders clearly and confidently.

What You Bring

  • Strong background in retail, travel, or ecommerce technology —ideally across multi-site or high-traffic environments,.
  • 8+ years in development/architecture, including 3+ years of hands-on technical leadership.
  • Deep understanding of SOA, API design, cloud platforms, networking, and distributed systems.
  • Proven experience integrating POS, WMS, CRM, loyalty, or similar retail systems.
  • Experience with Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Shopify Plus, or similar platforms.
  • Strong security expertise (Auth0, OAuth2, OIDC, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001).

Please note that initially the role demands 4-5 days a week in the office (half day on Friday), however, this will drop down to hybrid once relationships are made and you are embedded fully onto the team. The office is 20 minutes (ish) from Liverpool Street.
