Software Test Automation Lead

Our client, who are a forward-thinking technology organisation undergoing a major transformation in software quality and delivery, are looking for a Software Test Automation Lead to join their team on a permanent basis.

This role offers a hybrid working environment and will play a key part in driving the adoption of automated testing across multiple product development teams. The business is focused on modern engineering practices, CI/CD integration, and delivering high-quality software through scalable automation frameworks.

Key responsibilities of the Software Test Automation Lead job in Ashby-de-la-Zouch:

  • Define and deliver a comprehensive test automation strategy, driving the transition from manual to automated testing.
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust test automation frameworks using modern tools and best practices (including BDD).
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, working closely with DevOps teams.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a growing team of automation engineers, including performance management and training.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed a "shift-left" testing culture across the organisation.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality automated test scripts covering functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Execute and oversee all levels of testing including integration, system, regression, and acceptance testing.
  • Identify, manage, and resolve defects, ensuring high standards of product quality and reliability.
  • Provide regular reporting on testing progress, risks, and quality metrics to stakeholders.

Experience required for the Software Test Automation Lead job in Ashby-de-la-Zouch:

  • Proven experience defining and delivering test automation strategies within agile development environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with automation tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, WebDriver, Postman, or Cucumber.
  • Solid programming skills in JavaScript/TypeScript, with additional experience in .NET technologies (e.G. C#) desirable.
  • Good understanding of web technologies including HTML, CSS, and frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.G. Git), and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of non-functional testing including performance, load, and usability testing (e.G. WCAG).
  • Experience with test management tools such as Jira Xray.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring or managing QA/automation teams.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
