Shape how a brand-new engineering function operates
I'm working with an organisation making a significant investment in technology, AI and digital transformation. As part of that journey, they're bringing together multiple engineering teams into a single modern engineering function and are looking for Engineering Delivery Managers to help shape how that function operates.
This is a people-first leadership role focused on developing engineers, enabling high-performing teams and creating the conditions for successful delivery.
You'll lead both the people management and delivery aspects of engineering, helping teams perform at their best while continuously improving ways of working in an AI-native environment.
For someone who enjoys coaching engineers, influencing culture and building high-performing teams, this is an opportunity to make a genuine impact during a period of significant change and growth.
The Opportunity
As an Engineering Delivery Manager, you'll lead a group of engineers, supporting their growth, wellbeing, performance and career development while acting as the delivery lead for one or more engineering pods.
Working closely with Tech Leads and Product Managers, you'll ensure teams have the capacity, processes and support required to deliver effectively. Technical direction sits with the Tech Leads, allowing you to focus on people leadership, delivery excellence and team effectiveness.
With the operating model still evolving, you'll also have the opportunity to influence engineering culture, delivery practices and organisational standards at a point where your ideas can genuinely shape the future direction of the function.
What my client is looking for:
I'm keen to speak with candidates who have a proven track record of leading engineers and supporting successful software delivery environments.
You'll likely bring:
- Experience managing and developing software engineers
- Strong Agile delivery leadership experience
- A coaching-led approach to leadership and team development
- Experience operating within matrix organisations
- Strong resource planning and capacity management skills
- A track record of improving ways of working and delivery effectiveness
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- The ability to balance delivery outcomes with team wellbeing and long-term sustainability
It would be beneficial if you've also had exposure to:
- Modern software engineering environments
- AI-enabled software delivery practices
- Azure DevOps or modern delivery tooling
- Engineering transformation or organisational change programmes
- A technical background that helps build credibility with engineers
Why apply:
What stands out about this opportunity is the chance to help shape an engineering organisation during a major transformation rather than simply inherit established processes.
The business is making a long-term investment in technology, AI and modern engineering practices, creating an environment where innovation and continuous improvement are actively encouraged.
You'll help define how engineering teams operate, collaborate and deliver while influencing the culture, standards and operating model of a growing function. If you're passionate about developing engineers, enabling high-performing teams and helping shape a growing engineering organisation, I'd be delighted to tell you more.
