Who are we?
The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region’s economic development delivery organisation.
From April 2026, we will lead the delivery of regionally commissioned economic development activity aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan, working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and local authorities.

The Role
As our new Sector Lead - Technology & Digital, you'll take ownership of high-profile investor relationships, lead major inward investment projects, and act as WMGC's recognised sector expert across technology and digital services. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you'll help position the West Midlands as a destination of choice for global technology businesses looking to invest and grow.
You'll be involved in:
- Leading Strategic Technology Investment Projects - Taking ownership of the region's most significant Technology & Digital inward investment opportunities, including major multinational technology companies.
- Building and Influencing Senior Stakeholder Networks - Developing high-value relationships with investors, industry bodies, intermediaries, government agencies, and key sector partners to generate investment opportunities.
- Driving Sector Growth and Business Development Activity - Shaping investor development strategies, promoting the region internationally, and securing new investments that create jobs and economic growth.
*Please note this is a fixed term position for 6months*
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop and deliver investor development strategies across Technology & Digital sectors including Software, Digital & Data, Telecommunications, Cyber Security, Creative Industries, and IT Consulting.
- Lead complex inward investment projects from initial engagement through to successful delivery.
- Build and maintain relationships with technology companies, consultants, professional services firms, industry bodies, and public sector stakeholders.
- Support regional and international investment promotion activities, trade missions, and investor visits.
- Provide sector expertise to senior leadership, partners, and colleagues across the organisation.
- Collaborate with local authorities, universities, developers, and economic development partners to strengthen the West Midlands' technology proposition.
- Utilise CRM systems and market intelligence to manage pipelines and identify new investment opportunities.
- Line manage, coach, and develop the Business Development Manager within the Technology & Consumer Services team
What You’ll Bring
Essential:
- Significant experience within the Technology & Digital sector, with strong understanding of market trends, commercial drivers, and investment opportunities.
- Proven success in investor development, business development, strategic sales, or inward investment within a complex stakeholder environment.
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, including experience engaging with senior executives and C-suite stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Experience developing and executing commercial strategies that deliver measurable outcomes.
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
Desirable:
- Experience in place marketing, investment promotion, or economic development.
- Background within a major technology organisation, digital services business, consultancy, or advisory environment.
- Knowledge of the West Midlands technology ecosystem and key regional stakeholders.
- Previous leadership, coaching, or line management experience
