Information Governance Officer

Contract Type: Temporary (2-3 months)

Location: Hybrid (Leeds City Centre / Remote)

Rate: £19.32 per hour PAYE (£37,800 annual equivalent, pro-rata)

We are seeking two experienced Information Rights Officers to support a public sector organisation on a short-term contract basis. This role will focus on processing and preparing Freedom of Information (FOI) and Subject Access Requests (SARs), ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and statutory deadlines. The successful candidates will have strong experience managing information requests and a sound understanding of information governance and data protection requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and quality-check redactions using a recently implemented redaction tool.
  • Manage and respond to statutory information requests, including FOIs and SARs, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and timescales.
  • Liaise with internal service areas regarding information requests, providing advice and guidance on information rights matters.
  • Maintain and update request records using systems such as MS Power Apps and other information management databases.
  • Assess disclosure risks and apply appropriate exemptions and exceptions where required.
  • Support the delivery of effective information rights and compliance services across the organisation.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing and responding to statutory information requests, including FOIs and SARs.
  • Strong knowledge of information governance legislation and best practice, including:
    • UK GDPR
    • Data Protection Act 2018
    • Freedom of Information Act 2000
    • Environmental Information Regulations (desirable)
  • Ability to provide clear, accurate advice to colleagues and stakeholders on information rights matters.
  • Experience assessing disclosure risks and determining appropriate disclosures.
  • Proficiency in MS Power Apps and experience using information management or compliance databases.
