Kirklees Council are seeking a highly organised and efficient Business Support Officer to join their team. This role is crucial for managing the input of applications for free school meals into our IT system, especially during a period of eligibility changes. The ideal candidate will possess excellent IT skills, a high level of accuracy, and the ability to manage a large workload independently.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Input and update applications for free school meals for approximately 19,000 children in the IT system, ensuring accuracy in determining eligibility.
  • Provide typing and data processing support using various IT systems, including specialist word processing for mailshots and reports.
  • Organise and support meetings and events, ensuring they are well-prepared and recorded accurately through meticulous minute-taking.
  • Manage stock effectively, placing and processing orders using the organisation's ordering systems.
  • Undertake project work under supervision as required and maintain tidy reception, kitchen areas, and meeting rooms.
  • Provide a comprehensive reception service, handling enquiries sensitively and directing complex calls appropriately.
  • Manage post, scanning, and indexing services, ensuring accurate distribution throughout the office.
  • Act as the first point of contact for queries related to printers and other office equipment, excluding IT equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Team Leader to monitor and improve performance indicators to increase customer satisfaction.
  • Contribute to policy development and process improvements to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a business support or administrative role, preferably within a similar setting.
  • Excellent IT skills with confidence in using a range of software packages.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively, working independently and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Experience in managing stock and organising events or meetings is highly desirable.
