CAPEX Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a commercially minded professional to join a large, asset-intensive organisation in a key role focused on capital investment, financial governance and business improvement.
Acting as the CAPEX subject matter expert, you will provide commercial insight, financial analysis and governance support to ensure capital investment is accurately planned, controlled and reported. Working closely with operational, finance and technology teams, you will help develop and embed a system-led approach to CAPEX management, driving automation, improving data quality and delivering greater value from investment spend.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact for CAPEX-related queries.
- Analyse capital expenditure performance, job costing, unit costs and variances.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of CAPEX and work-in-progress records.
- Review capitalisation of expenditure and ensure compliance with accounting policies and standards.
- Support fixed asset accounting, depreciation and component accounting activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial performance, governance and value for money.
- Lead the development and implementation of CAPEX processes, controls and system enhancements.
- Work with Finance and IT teams to develop automated workflows, reporting capabilities and business solutions.
- Produce process documentation, user guides and training materials.
- Drive continuous improvement and support business-wide adoption of new processes and systems.
About You
You will have strong analytical and commercial skills, with experience managing or supporting capital expenditure, fixed assets or investment programmes.
Essential Experience
- Experience within commercial finance, CAPEX, fixed assets, asset management or a similar environment.
- Strong understanding of CAPEX management, financial controls and capitalisation principles.
- Knowledge of FRS 102 and fixed asset accounting.
- Advanced Excel and strong data analysis skills.
- Experience working with large datasets and transforming information into actionable insights.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling experience.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience improving processes, controls and reporting frameworks.
- Proactive, detail-oriented and solutions focused.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within an asset-intensive organisation.
- Exposure to ERP, finance or enterprise management systems.
- Systems implementation, automation or transformation project experience.
- Continuous improvement or change management experience.
