Category Manager

About the Role

REED Procurement are partnered with a Public Sector organisation based in South Wales who are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Category Manager/Procurement Manager to join a dynamic Digital Business Unit. This is a role in the business on a 15 month fixed term contract, supporting the delivery of strategic digital, data, and technology objectives through expert procurement and commercial guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex ICT procurement and tendering exercises in line with public sector regulations and best practices.
  • Negotiate contract renewals and support financial planning and budget management for the Digital, Data & Technology Directorate.
  • Collaborate closely with senior stakeholders to align procurement activity with strategic goals.
  • Manage and mentor a team of procurement professionals, supporting their development and performance.
  • Deputise for the Digital Procurement Manager as required, contributing to leadership and decision-making across the function.

About You

You will bring:

  • Proven experience in public sector procurement, ideally with a focus on ICT or digital services. They will also consider other category experience as long as you have recent experience of operating in the public sector and working on complex procurement projects and tenders. 
  • Strong knowledge of procurement legislation and frameworks relevant to the public sector.
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and contract management skills.
  • Experience managing or mentoring a team.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to lead on high-value, high-impact projects.
