Data Engineering Manager
Reed Technology is supporting a key public-sector organisation currently seeking a highly experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead the delivery of modern, scalable data products and services across the organisation.
This role would suit a strategic and technically strong data leader with deep expertise in Azure data technologies, modern Lakehouse architecture, and data engineering best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape and deliver the organisation’s data vision and roadmap with senior technology leaders.
- Act as the technical authority for data architecture across Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Delta Lake, and Power BI.
- Lead the design, build, and maintenance of scalable data products, pipelines, and Lakehouse solutions.
- Oversee data migration from legacy systems, ensuring quality, lineage, and continuity.
- Establish and improve data governance, metadata management, and documentation standards.
- Lead the Data Engineering contribution to major organisational programmes, including system integration initiatives.
- Drive continual improvement of data engineering processes, tooling, and operational excellence.
- Manage, mentor, and grow the data engineering team, building capability and technical standards.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong experience building data products and pipelines using Azure data technologies such as Microsoft Fabric or Delta Lake.
- Skilled in Python, T-SQL, and modern development practices (including test-driven development).
- Extensive experience designing data architecture, data models, integrations, and migrations.
- Hands-on experience with Apache Spark or similar distributed processing frameworks.
- Understanding and practical use of CI/CD in data engineering workflows.
- Ideally with leadership experience managing and developing data engineering teams.
- Track record delivering large-scale data migration projects end-to-end.
- Experience managing delivery across cost, quality, timelines, and risk.
- Experience establishing or improving data governance practices.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
