Data Governance Lead

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead to join our team and play a critical role in establishing and embedding a scalable, enterprise-wide data governance capability. This position involves leading the design and implementation of data governance frameworks, improving data quality, and driving data literacy and cultural change across the organisation.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead the design and implementation of enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, including policies, standards, controls, and operating models across all key data domains.
  • Define and embed data ownership and stewardship models, ensuring clear accountability for data across the organisation.
  • Establish and manage data quality frameworks, including KPIs, monitoring, dashboards, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Partner with business and technical stakeholders to improve data processes, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and trust in data across systems and platforms.
  • Develop, implement, and embed data policies, standards, and controls, aligning with regulatory and organisational requirements.
  • Drive data literacy and upskilling across the organisation through training, guidance, and engagement initiatives.
  • Champion a data-driven culture, promoting the value of well-governed data and enabling teams to make informed decisions through trusted data assets.
  • Engage senior stakeholders to understand critical data needs, priorities, and dependencies, ensuring governance supports strategic outcomes.
  • Develop governance performance reporting, including metrics, dashboards, and executive-level insights to track maturity and improvement.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in designing and implementing enterprise data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM).
  • Proven experience in establishing data ownership and stewardship models in complex organisations.
  • Demonstrable experience in data quality management, measurement, and remediation frameworks.
  • Experience delivering data literacy, training, or enablement programmes at scale.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including communication, influencing, and conflict management across senior audiences.
  • Ability to operate proactively and independently in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with a focus on driving cultural change.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in large, complex organisations (e.g., logistics, operations-heavy, or regulated industries).
  • Consulting or advisory experience supporting enterprise data transformation or governance maturity uplift.
  • Familiarity with data governance tooling (e.g., catalogues, lineage, quality platforms).
