Data Platform Engineer
Reed Technology is working with a company based in Auchterarder, currently seeking to hire a Data Platform Engineer on a 12-month contract (Outside IR35).
The position combines technical engineering with platform oversight. Responsibilities include constructing and operating data pipelines and models, facilitating secure and compliant self-service analytics, and implementing the operational frameworks and automation required for a scalable, trustworthy platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the delivery of the data strategy by improving engineering practices and ensuring the business can rely on clean, trustworthy data.
- Lead by example with hands-on development, building ELT/ETL pipelines for Snowflake and Oracle using SQL, Python, and modern orchestration tools, while taking ownership of optimisation and performance.
- Produce high-quality, well-structured data products and certified Power BI outputs that are ready for analysts and business users.
- Maintain reliable, well-monitored, and cost-efficient pipelines with clear operational expectations and service levels.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to turn data into practical insights and measurable improvements.
- Oversee data quality and governance, enforcing standards, validations, SLAs, lineage tracking, cataloguing, and lifecycle processes such as retention and archiving.
- Manage the daily operation and health of the data platform — databases, pipelines, and warehouses — using dashboards, alerts, incident procedures, and CI/CD workflows.
- Embed privacy-by-design and strong security, using RBAC, masking, classification, and secure key/secret management, and providing evidence for compliance activities.
- Support analytics delivery by shaping conformed data layers, publishing certified datasets, refining SQL/DAX, and upskilling analysts and power users.
- Define repeatable engineering patterns (batch, CDC, streaming when appropriate), document them clearly, and manage dependencies and scheduling.
- Deliver exceptional, welcoming interactions with our guests, maintaining a professional and helpful approach that enhances their overall luxury experience.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong SQL skills in Snowflake and Oracle, good Python ability, and experience with tools like dbt, Airflow, ADF, or Matillion, plus Git-based CI/CD.
- Confident with Power BI: building datasets, modelling, optimising DAX, and managing workspaces and deployments.
- Comfortable running production data platforms, including monitoring, incidents, performance, and cost management.
- Solid understanding of security and compliance — RBAC, masking/encryption, auditing, and GDPR-aligned controls.
- Experience across hybrid/on-prem and cloud data systems, plus familiarity with SaaS integrations.
Benefits:
- 12-month contract, Outside IR35
- Daily-rate up to £450 / day
- Hybrid working model (1 to 2 days per week in the office)
