GCP Data Engineer

• Contract Duration: 6 months initially 
• Location: Farringdon, London (Hybrid - 3 days a week onsite)
• Job Type: Contract, inside IR35

Join Reed Professional Services, a leading Management Consultancy and technology services provider, as a Data Engineer. This role involves supporting our prestigious client, on their Data Strategy programme. You will play a crucial role in designing and building scalable, resilient, and reusable data pipelines on the Google Cloud Platform, shaping the next generation of their data platform.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Design and build scalable, resilient, reusable data pipeline templates across various domains and data products.
• Standardise ingestion and transformation patterns using configuration-driven pipeline frameworks.
• Embed data quality checks by default, including schema validation, completeness, freshness, thresholds, and automated alerting.
• Enhance end-to-end pipeline resilience, monitoring, observability, failure handling, and recovery mechanisms.
• Integrate AI/ML features to boost reliability, anomaly detection, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate closely with Data Product teams, Analytics Engineering, and Data Science to deliver production-grade data solutions.
• Ensure pipelines are production-ready, well-documented, and ready for business-as-usual handover.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proficient in Python, Scala, and SQL.
• Extensive experience in data modelling and ELT/ETL processes.
• Strong hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform, including BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Composer, and Cloud Run/App Engine.
• Familiarity with CI/CD & DevOps practices, including automated testing and infrastructure as code.
• Experience in implementing data quality frameworks, observability tooling, and production monitoring patterns.
• Proven ability to build reusable data pipeline templates for large-scale, multi-domain platforms.
• Experience in enterprise data transformation programmes with stringent SLAs and reliability expectations.

Preferred Experience:

• Exposure to AI-enabled pipeline capabilities, such as anomaly detection or intelligent monitoring.
• Good understanding of MLOps or supporting deployment of ML models into production environments.
• Experience with CI/CD automation, testing frameworks, and observability tooling.
