GIS Manager
Reed Technology is partnering with a prestigious Edinburgh-based organisation to recruit a GIS Manager.
In this role, you will take full ownership of the organisation’s GIS ecosystem, ensuring its applications, data, and services are robust, performant, and aligned with the needs of clients and internal teams across multiple business streams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the full lifecycle of all GIS applications, ensuring they remain reliable, high-performing, secure, and well-maintained.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of GIS specialists, providing guidance, support, and oversight to ensure consistently high-quality output.
- Act as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and ensuring effective communication around GIS services and priorities.
- Oversee the GIS applications budget, collaborating closely with the IT Manager to ensure cost-effective planning and investment.
- Drive the migration of spatial data and GIS workflows to the cloud, ensuring modern, scalable, and efficient solutions.
- Manage the delivery of both internal and external GIS projects, ensuring they are completed on time, to scope, and to a high standard.
- Support business development activities, contributing GIS expertise to proposals and strategic initiatives.
Requirements:
- Strong technical capability across modern GIS platforms, spatial databases, automation, and data management.
Essential skills and experience include:
- QGIS
- FME Form and FME Flow
- GeoServer
- ArcGIS Online
- Data handling, cleaning, and ETL procedures
- Python scripting – ability to automate GIS workflows or develop QGIS plugins.
- SQL proficiency – ability to write complex queries and manage spatial databases.
- Spatial database design & management – experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, Esri geodatabases, Oracle Spatial, Microsoft SQL Server, or similar.
- Web mapping services – ability to create, publish, and administer WMS/WFS using GeoServer, ArcGIS Online, or equivalent platforms.
- Cartography – demonstrable skill in producing accurate, visually effective maps to support colleague and client decision-making.
- Spatial analysis – experience applying spatial techniques to answer business questions and support operational decisions.
- Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint
Benefits:
- Permanent position with a salary of up to £55,000 / year (DOE).
- Hybrid working model – 2 days on-site in Edinburgh.
