Head of Digital Portfolio
One of our largest public sector organisations based in London are looking to recruit a Head of Digital Portfolio for an initial 6-month contract. This is a high-impact interim role for a confident leader who can provide direction, governance, and momentum across a diverse and fast-moving portfolio.
Initial duration: 6-months
Day rate: £611.37 per day via PAYE or £800 per day via Umbrella
Working pattern: Hybrid – 2 days per week on-site (Union Street, Tuesday essential; second day flexible)
The Role
You’ll take ownership of a substantial digital and IT portfolio, overseeing around 50 active projects at any one time across the wider unit. This includes a mix of web and digital initiatives, CRM/Salesforce programmes, data-led projects, and broader IT change.
Operating at senior level, you’ll:
- Lead and mature the PMO / MSP function, ensuring consistent, robust delivery standards across all programmes
- Provide governance, assurance, and oversight, chairing portfolio forums and leadership meetings
- Act as the senior voice for the function, representing the unit at leadership calls and influencing key stakeholders
- Drive clarity, prioritisation, and successful outcomes across competing initiatives
Leadership & Team Management
A key element of the role is people leadership. You’ll manage and develop a team of circa 15, including:
- Project Managers
- Business Partners
- Business Support
- Digital Training capability
You’ll set clear direction, create consistency of approach, and foster a high-performing, delivery-focused culture.
About You
- Proven experience leading a PMO/MSP function within complex organisations
- Track record of managing and delivering large, multi-disciplinary digital portfolios
- Confident operating at leadership level, with strong governance and stakeholder management skills
- PRINCE2 qualified (or equivalent)
- Comfortable balancing strategic oversight with hands-on direction when required
