Information Governance Officer
- Hourly Rate: £29.89 (via Umbrella)
- Location: Predominantly remote with 1 day per month onsite
- Job Type: Contract (3 months initially)
We are seeking an Information Governance Officer to assist in the delivery of an effective information governance function. This role involves providing expert advice and guidance across all areas of the Service to ensure compliance with information governance legislation and cyber security standards. This position reports directly to the Information Governance Manager and does not have any direct reports.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Respond to Freedom of Information requests and Subject Access Requests, ensuring compliance with statutory timeframes and relevant legislation.
- Provide specialist advice and guidance on data protection, data sharing, disclosure, freedom of information, records management, and cyber security.
- Work with Information Asset Owners and Leads to maintain an Information Asset Register and conduct Data Protection impact assessments.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of training materials, deliver training sessions, monitor completion rates, and identify training needs.
- Monitor compliance with the Local Government Code of Transparency and requirements for proactive publication under the Freedom of Information Act.
- Manage data protection related security incidents, mitigate risks, and communicate lessons learned.
- Raise awareness and embed Information Governance and cyber security throughout the Service.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of information governance legislation and best practices.
- Provide system administration support for the policies and procedures system.
- Assist in the development of IG related policies and procedures and support IG projects, such as the implementation of standards and drafting of information sharing agreements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Expert knowledge in information governance, data protection, and cyber security.
- Proven experience in handling Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests.
- Ability to develop and deliver training materials and sessions.
- Strong project management skills and experience in policy development.
- Excellent communication and advisory skills, capable of representing the department in various settings.
- Proficient in managing data within Service systems and ensuring the integrity of this data.
