Lead Web Developer

Lead Web Developer

Contract: Full-time, Permanent Salary: Competitive Hours: Monday to Friday

Do you want to build products that people love using? Do you enjoy leading engineering teams, shaping technical direction, and turning complex problems into elegant web experiences? If you’re a hands-on leader with a passion for scalable architecture and clean code, this could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

This isn’t just a job; it’s your chance to set standards, mentor talented developers, and deliver high-performing, secure, and accessible web applications. You’ll play a pivotal role in how our platforms evolve and how our users experience them every day.

Why This Role Could Be Perfect for You

  • You want ownership of technical decisions and the roadmap for modern web platforms
  • You love solving hard problems and simplifying them for the team and the user
  • You thrive in fast-paced environments and enjoy guiding delivery at speed and quality
  • You value craftsmanship: performance, reliability, accessibility, and great developer experience
  • You enjoy mentoring, coaching, and creating a culture of continuous improvement
  • You’re motivated by measurable impact and shipping features that make a real difference

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and accessible web applications
  • Defining architecture across front end, APIs, and services (component libraries, CI/CD, observability)
  • Writing high-quality code and conducting thoughtful code reviews
  • Guiding technical standards: performance budgets, testing strategy, documentation, and reliability practices
  • Collaborating with product, design, and data to turn requirements into roadmap and clear user outcomes
  • Owning release processes, incident response, and continuous improvement cycles
  • Mentoring engineers: pairing, feedback, growth plans, and hiring support
  • Championing accessibility (WCAG), security best practices, and privacy-by-design
  • Measuring what matters: Core Web Vitals, uptime, error rates, and user-impact KPIs

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience leading web engineering teams and shipping complex products
  • Deep knowledge of modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React/Next.js, Vue/Nuxt, or Angular)
  • Strong grasp of TypeScript, semantic HTML, modern CSS (CSS-in-JS, utility frameworks), and design systems
  • Experience with Node.js APIs, microservices, or serverless architectures
  • Proficiency with CI/CD, testing (unit/integration/e2e), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with performance optimisation (Core Web Vitals), accessibility standards, and SEO fundamentals
  • Comfort with observability tools (logs, metrics, tracing) and secure coding practices
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to align stakeholders and developers
  • Bonus: Experience with headless CMS, GraphQL, edge rendering/CDN, and data-driven experimentation

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • Real ownership: autonomy to set standards and influence technical strategy
  • A supportive team culture focused on learning, collaboration, and delivery excellence
  • Access to modern tooling, training, and dedicated time for innovation
  • Clear progression and the chance to shape engineering practices across the organisation

If you’re ready to lead, ship, and elevate the web experience for thousands of users, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today and let’s explore how your expertise could be the perfect fit for this role.
