Network Engineer - Juniper - Contract - Hampshire
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer with strong Juniper expertise to join a major Cyber Security transformation programme for a large government customer. This role centres on the build, hardening and deployment of Juniper network devices, alongside acting as a key contributor to the rollout of Gigamon visibility solutions within a secure production environment.
Rate : £500 - £600 p/day (inside IR35)
Security Clearance - essential
Location : Bracknell
Key Responsibilities
- Build, configure and harden Juniper switches in accordance with approved build guides and security standards.
- Perform remote configuration of network hardware under the direction of a team lead.
- Install and cable hardware on customer sites, including rack and stack activities.
- Support hardware during customer test phases and provide timely troubleshooting.
- Work collaboratively with project teams to ensure successful implementation of new network visibility infrastructure.
- Provide clear and regular progress updates to the Project Manager and Team Lead.
- Engage with Fujitsu service teams to hand over newly deployed hardware into operational support.
- Operate within a secure government environment, requiring on-site presence 4–5 days per week.
- Flexibility to support occasional out-of-hours implementations.
Mandatory Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience as a Network Engineer deploying hardware into customer environments.
- Proven background with Juniper networking technologies, including hands-on device build, configuration and hardening.
- Strong understanding of network integration within secure or sensitive government environments.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and build strong working relationships across technical groups.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and methodical implementation of build standards.
- A proactive, self-starting attitude with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience supporting remote configuration and testing during customer acceptance phases.
- Must be comfortable working fully on-site in a secure production environment.
- Willingness to work flexibly around customer demands, including occasional out-of-hours activity.
Desirable Skills
- Experience deploying or supporting Gigamon visibility platforms (e.g., GigaVUE appliances, GigaVUE-FM).
- Prior involvement in large-scale cyber, network or monitoring-visibility programmes.
