IT Support Technician / ICT Technician

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic IT Support Technician to join our busy ICT team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical knowledge and excellent customer service skills who enjoys solving problems and supporting staff and students in a fast-paced environment.

As the first point of contact for IT support, you will be responsible for maintaining computer systems, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, supporting classroom technology, and ensuring the smooth running of the organisation's IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and configure operating systems and software applications.
  • Monitor, maintain, and support computer systems and networks.
  • Act as the first point of contact for IT support queries and error reporting.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues.
  • Follow technical documentation, diagrams, and written instructions to repair faults and deploy systems.
  • Provide face-to-face and remote support to staff and students, guiding them through technical issues.
  • Manage and prioritise support tickets through the helpdesk system.
  • Deliver and maintain laptop and iPad trolleys for lessons and bookings.
  • Set up audiovisual and IT equipment for events, meetings, and classroom bookings.
  • Unpack, process, and store IT deliveries accurately.
  • Manage stock levels and maintain inventory records.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety and health & safety standards.
  • Create and manage user accounts and resolve account-related issues.
  • Support the deployment and roll-out of new hardware and software solutions.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain hardware and software to maximise usability and performance.
  • Repair or replace faulty equipment as required.
  • Ensure all software installations are correctly licensed and compliant.
  • Test and evaluate new technologies, software, and hardware.
  • Maintain accurate asset management records.
  • Monitor and verify backup systems to minimise the risk of data loss.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in an IT support or helpdesk environment.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Apple macOS and iOS
    • Microsoft Office Applications, including Microsoft 365
    • Microsoft Windows 10 and Windows 11
  • Basic understanding of:
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2016–2022
    • TCP/IP networking
    • Network switches and connectivity
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload effectively.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Experience working within an education environment.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, or Group Policy.
  • Experience with mobile device management (MDM) solutions.
  • Relevant IT qualifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft certifications, or equivalent.
