Senior Data & Reporting Engineer - Outside IR35 - SC Cleared

A public sector organisation is seeking a Senior Data & Reporting Engineer to join via a Consultancy to support a major cloud-based data programme focused on occupancy analytics and smart building technologies.

You will play a pivotal role in designing, developing and optimising data pipelines, reporting datasets and analytical solutions that transform complex operational data into trusted business insights. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary Agile team, you will help evolve a sophisticated AWS-hosted platform that ingests data from WiFi, IoT sensors and other property technology systems.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys combining data engineering, analytics engineering and reporting expertise to deliver high-quality data products that inform strategic and operational decision-making.

This is an initial contract until May 2027 with potential to be extended, it is one day per week in the office in Central London with a daily rate of £610 per day Outside IR35. The successful candidate will need to already hold SC clearance and it will need to be transferred to the client.

Key Responsibilities

As Senior Data & Reporting Engineer, you will:

  • Design, build and maintain scalable data models, schemas and reporting structures.
  • Develop, optimise and support ETL/ELT pipelines for occupancy and operational datasets.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources including WiFi, IoT sensors and third-party systems.
  • Improve data quality, consistency and reliability across the platform.
  • Create and maintain curated datasets for reporting, analytics and business intelligence.
  • Support the development and refinement of occupancy measurement methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cloud and platform engineers to optimise data ingestion and processing.
  • Investigate and resolve complex data quality, transformation and reporting issues.
  • Implement monitoring, validation and quality controls across data pipelines.
  • Support the delivery of dashboards, reports and analytical outputs.
  • Maintain data lineage, metadata and technical documentation.
  • Contribute to data architecture and technical design discussions.
  • Support onboarding of new data sources, integrations and technologies.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, estimation and delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement across data engineering and reporting capabilities.

Essential Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Active SC Clearance.
  • Significant experience in data engineering and data pipeline development.
  • Strong expertise in ETL/ELT design, development and optimisation.
  • Advanced SQL development and query optimisation skills.
  • Strong Python development experience for data processing and automation.
  • Experience designing data models for reporting and analytics.
  • Experience integrating multiple systems and data sources.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, validation and reconciliation techniques.
  • Experience creating and optimising reporting datasets and semantic models.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse and data lake architectures.
  • Experience with data governance, metadata management and data lineage.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
