Digital Content Lead

We are seeking a Digital Content Lead to spearhead a digital content transformation, focusing primarily on a website migration. This role involves hands-on leadership within a live programme, driving delivery at pace, shaping content strategy, and ensuring all content is accessible, user-centred, and aligned with service outcomes.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Delivery and Project Leadership:

    • Lead and deliver priority content redesign and migration activities.
    • Drive progress against a content backlog, aligned with programme milestones and launch plans.
    • Work closely with programme and delivery leads to identify and unblock content dependencies.
    • Operate effectively in an agile/iterative delivery environment, supporting rapid testing and refinement.
  • Content Strategy and Approach:

    • Define and evolve a pragmatic content strategy aligned with programme timelines and constraints.
    • Lead the implementation of a structured content model.
    • Balance speed and quality, making clear, evidence-based decisions on where to invest effort.
  • AI and Content Transformation:

    • Contribute to and shape the AI-assisted content approach, ensuring outputs are usable and appropriate.
    • Define quality thresholds and review processes for AI-generated or AI-assisted content.
    • Work alongside human content editors to refine, improve, and assure priority content.
  • Content Migration and Quality Assurance:

    • Own the content migration approach, including audit, prioritisation, and acceptance criteria.
    • Ensure content is accurate, consistent, accessible, compliant, and written in a clear, user-centred style aligned to GDS principles.
    • Act as the final point of quality assurance for key content areas.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of user-centred content design and accessibility.
  • Practical experience of content modelling and structured content.
  • Ability to balance speed and quality in delivery environments.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex information.
  • Strong prioritisation and decision-making skills.
  • Significant experience delivering content design or content strategy in complex organisations.
  • Proven experience of large-scale website content migration or redesign.
  • Experience working in fast-paced digital or transformation programmes.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and suppliers.
