Control Systems Engineer

Control Systems Engineer –  Future Team Lead!

Location: High Wycombe On-site £45–52K long-term growth opportunity

A rare opportunity to take ownership, shape systems from scratch, and grow with a scaling engineering business.

A well-established but fast-growing technology company is looking for a talented Control Systems Engineer to take the lead on their automation systems. This is a chance to step into a role with real technical ownership – designing, maintaining, and evolving the control architecture for advanced, high-precision machinery.

The business is entering a rapid growth phase, with turnover increasing year-on-year and a clear roadmap for team expansion. You’ll be the first dedicated Controls Engineer, laying the foundations for future hires and, if desired, stepping into a leadership role as the controls function grows.

Why this role stands out:

  • Autonomy and ownership: Take control of the entire automation layer – no red tape or legacy teams in your way.

  • Progression: As the business scales, so does your opportunity – from engineering lead to potential team leadership.

  • Hands-on impact: Work closely with the design, production, and R&D teams to bring products from concept to delivery.

  • Collaborative team: Join a multi-skilled engineering group that’s passionate about innovation.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Developing, customising, and maintaining PLC software

  • Updating and evolving PC-based software

  • Designing schematics and interlock systems to ensure safety and compliance

  • Supporting production, testing (FATs), and installation teams

  • Working alongside R&D to support the development of new features and systems

  • Creating and maintaining clear technical documentation

We’re looking for:

  • A degree in Engineering or Science – or equivalent hands-on experience

  • Strong experience with industrial control systems and PLC programming

  • Some experience with PC-based software development

  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and interest in long-term development

The opportunity:

This is a genuine opportunity to make your mark in a growing business. With a proven track record of year-on-year growth, they’re investing heavily in engineering capability and infrastructure – and you’ll be central to that journey.
