Senior Front End Developer
Senior Front End Developer
- Remote-first (Have to be UK-based) | 1 day a month in London
- £70,000–£80,000
We're hiring on behalf of a fast-growing startup with a fresh brand identity, an ambitious product roadmap, and a team that genuinely collaborates. This is a business at an exciting inflection point and a great time to join.
They're looking for a Senior Front End Developer with Solid.JS experience to take real technical ownership of one of their flagship public-facing platforms. Not a cog in a machine. Not a ticket-closer. An engineer who cares about the quality of what they ship.
The Role
You'll be the technical owner of a live production system serving thousands of users, a multi-component platform with an established architecture that needs a senior pair of hands to strengthen and grow.
This is a hands-on role with significant autonomy. Day-to-day responsibility for quality and delivery sits with you, and you'll have access to the Head of Software Engineering for architectural direction when you need it.
You'll be maintaining and extending a SolidStart (TypeScript) web application with mapping, search, and public engagement features, working across AWS Lambda functions that handle data pipelines and processing, and managing data flows across PostgreSQL, DuckDB, and Elasticsearch. Building out test coverage and CI/CD quality gates is treated as a core priority here, not an afterthought, and you'll be identifying and resolving security vulnerabilities across the stack as an ongoing practice. AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code, are a genuine part of the daily workflow here, not a nice-to-have.
The Tech Stack
- Frontend: SolidJS / SolidStart, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Mapbox GL Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, AWS Lambda Data: PostgreSQL (PostGIS), DuckDB, Elasticsearch Infrastructure: AWS (Lambda, ECS, S3, SES), Terraform, Docker Monitoring: Sentry AI Tooling: Claude Code
- Full-stack mastery isn't expected. What matters is the ability to learn new tools quickly and the confidence to get on with it.
About You
You take pride in strengthening existing systems, not just building shiny new ones. Testing and CI/CD aren't boxes to tick, they're how you ship with confidence. You can read someone else's code, understand it, and improve it thoughtfully. Security is an ongoing practice for you, not a one-off job.
- You'll need 4+ years of professional software development experience, strong TypeScript proficiency, and demonstrable experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar. A track record of improving existing codebases rather than only building from scratch is important for this one.
- Experience with spatial data (PostGIS, GIS formats, mapping libraries) and CI/CD pipeline setup would be useful, but neither is a dealbreaker. There's a dedicated platform engineer on the team, so deep AWS expertise isn't essential either.
- Critically, you need to be genuinely interested in AI-assisted development. Claude Code is embedded in this team's engineering workflow and you'll be expected to use it daily, contribute to how it's used well, and have an informed view on where it adds real value and where it doesn't.
If you would like to apply for this position, please apply with your updated CV.
Please note you have to be based in the UK.
