Data Engineering Delivery Lead

The Role:

We are embarking on a major data transformation and require an experienced Data Engineering & Delivery Lead to take full end-to-end ownership of the existing data estate and strategic change portfolio. You will oversee delivery across business, IT, and vendor teams, ensuring projects meet quality, scope, and timeline expectations, while maintaining high technical and engineering standards.

You’ll work closely with Business, Change Management, and third-party vendors to deliver high-impact data programmes, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic vision and roadmap. This is a high-visibility role requiring confidence, accountability, and deep insurance knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of strategic data programmes, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and quality.
  • Collaborate with Data Governance, business stakeholders, and vendors to drive change initiatives.
  • Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management, ensuring transparency and alignment with objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, best practices, and technical standards across all projects.
  • Manage resourcing, including cross-functional teams and vendor partners.
  • Oversee software development lifecycle, production support, and technology adoption.
  • Prepare business cases, financial analyses, and evaluate technology solutions against strategic needs.
  • Lead and develop your team through recruitment, training, performance management, and recognition.
  • Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and industry trends, ensuring the company remains at the cutting edge.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of modern database technologies, including Snowflake, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in Python, PowerBI, and broad software development techniques.
  • Strong leadership with proven ability to motivate and guide teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving and organizational excellence.
  • Knowledge of application test automation, Agile, and conventional development methodologies.
  • Strategic decision-making with long-term planning capabilities.
  • Deep experience with Insurance/Reinsurance systems and data.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with 10–15 years in software development, architecture, and project management.
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale data programmes in insurance.
  • Significant management experience, ideally in financial services.
