Infrastructure Engineer

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer with strong expertise in Fortinet / FortiGate firewalls and VMware vCenter to join a dynamic IT infrastructure team.

You will play a key role in maintaining, securing, and optimising the organisation’s network and virtual infrastructure environment, ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience across business-critical systems.

This role offers a mix of BAU support and project-based work, including infrastructure upgrades, security enhancements, and virtualisation improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and support Fortinet / FortiGate firewalls and security appliances
  • Manage firewall policies, VPNs (IPSec/SSL), NAT, VLANs, and routing protocols
  • Administer and maintain VMware vCenter and ESXi environments, including VM provisioning and host management
  • Monitor and optimise virtual infrastructure performance and capacity
  • Support network infrastructure including switching, routing, WAN/LAN, and SD-WAN
  • Implement security best practices across network and virtual environments
  • Provide 2nd/3rd line support for infrastructure and network incidents
  • Support backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations
  • Maintain infrastructure documentation, diagrams, and configuration standards
  • Contribute to infrastructure transformation and cloud integration initiatives
Required Experience
  • Proven experience in an Infrastructure or Network Engineer role
  • Strong hands-on experience with Fortinet / FortiGate firewalls
  • Solid experience administering VMware vCenter and ESXi hosts
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and firewall management
  • Experience with Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Knowledge of virtual networking within VMware environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
Desirable Experience
  • Fortinet certifications (e.g., NSE 4 or above)
  • VMware certifications (e.g., VCP)
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments (Azure, AWS)
  • Experience with backup solutions (e.g., Veeam)
  • Automation or scripting experience (PowerShell, Python)
  • Experience with monitoring or SIEM tools
