Snowflake Data Engineer
Data Engineer – Snowflake
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with strong expertise in Snowflake, data analysis and data architecture to join our Data Services team and play a key role in delivering our Reporting & Analytics programme.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and develop an enterprise data platform, ensuring high-quality, reliable and accessible data supports business reporting and analytics across the organisation.
The Role
As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining the enterprise data platform, with a particular focus on Snowflake. You will work across data architecture, engineering and analysis, ensuring data flows seamlessly from source systems into Snowflake and ultimately into the Power BI reporting layer.
You will help define the right data architecture, validate existing system designs and implementations, and build robust, scalable data pipelines and transformation processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse existing datasets and data structures to help prioritise, design and implement the enterprise data platform.
- Design and implement dimensional data models within Snowflake to support enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Build and maintain production-grade data transformation workflows using robust development, testing, version control and documentation practices.
- Develop and optimise Snowflake environments, including warehouse configuration, query performance and cost efficiency.
- Develop and manage data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF) to ingest data from a range of source systems.
- Automate, monitor and troubleshoot data loads to ensure data is available accurately and on time.
- Implement and manage Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and data masking policies within Snowflake to protect sensitive business and client data.
- Contribute to data engineering standards, naming conventions, development practices and CI/CD processes.
- Support data analysis, data architecture and enterprise data modelling activities across existing and new data platforms.
- Work closely with technical and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective data solutions.
- Ensure data models and pipelines are scalable, maintainable, secure and aligned with the organisation's wider data strategy.
About You Essential Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake is essential, including architecture, administration and performance optimisation.
- Strong experience in general data analysis, data architecture, data dictionaries, data taxonomy and enterprise data models.
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise data platforms.
- Strong understanding of dimensional modelling and data warehousing principles.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF) for data ingestion and orchestration.
- Experience developing production-grade data pipelines and transformation workflows.
- Understanding of data governance, security and access controls.
- Experience working with RBAC and data masking within Snowflake or comparable data platforms.
- Ability to communicate complex technical data concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a structured approach to data engineering and architecture.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within a professional services or legal environment.
- Experience supporting enterprise reporting and analytics platforms, particularly Power BI.
- Experience with CI/CD practices and version-controlled data engineering environments.
- Experience working with sensitive, confidential or highly regulated data.
