Interim Capital and Systems Accountant

Financial Systems & Capital Accountant  |  £55K +  |  Liverpool   |  12 Month FTC

This 12-month fixed-term role is ideal for a technically skilled accountant with strong problem-solving abilities, responsible for improving processes and controls related to capital and component accounting. The role includes systems administration and report development enhance financial insights, as well as interpreting changes to legislation and accounting standards into practical system and process updates.

Responsibilities

  • Review and enhance capital and component accounting processes for housing assets, ensuring accurate data capture at recognition, revaluation, and disposal stages.
  • Reconcile housing property records in the fixed asset system with financial statement disclosures to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Standardize accounting approaches for other fixed assets in line with methodologies used for housing properties.
  • Collaborate with IT to integrate finance systems with other business applications, monitor system performance, and manage issue resolution.
  • Identify and implement improvements or automation in financial reporting processes, including report writing to support more efficient housing-related financial analysis.
  • Ensure finance systems comply with housing sector regulatory requirements and financial reporting standards, implementing necessary updates in partnership with senior finance leadership.
  • Support regular reviews of finance policies, including capitalisation policies specific to housing assets, ensuring systems and processes enforce compliance.
  • Continuously review and improve financial processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the housing finance function.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of housing sector accounting standards, legislation, and best practices through ongoing professional development.
  • Deliver a customer-focused finance service supporting housing operations and stakeholders both internally and externally.

About you:

  • A Professional Accounting Qualification: CIMA, ACCA or CIPFA
  • Extensive experience in finance systems, including system and data reconciliation, with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems and processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, able to work independently while collaborating effectively to support financial performance and strategic business insights.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and data analysis skills, combined with a thorough understanding of accounting standards and the ability to manage tight deadlines.
