Technical Business Analyst Guernsey

Digital and Technology Banking Client based in Guernsey is seeking an on-site Technical Business Analyst who will act as a critical bridge between business stakeholders, product owners, and engineering teams in the delivery of core banking platforms and surrounding banking services. The role combines deep banking domain knowledge with strong technical analysis skills to ensure that functional requirements are translated into scalable, secure, and compliant technical solutions.

This role will support core banking transformation, new product launches, regulatory change, and integration with payments, digital channels, and downstream systems.

Key responsibilities:

Business & Domain Analysis
Elicit, analyse, and document business requirements related to core banking domains.
Translate regulatory, operational, and product requirements into clear functional specifications.
Act as a subject matter expert on banking processes, product behaviour, and lifecycle events.

Technical Analysis & Solution Design
Convert business requirements into detailed technical requirements, including:
o API contracts (REST/JSON, event schemas)
o Data models and mappings
o Integration flows and sequencing
Work closely with solution architects to:
o Validate architectural decisions
o Ensure alignment with target-state core banking architecture
Support design of integrations between:
o Core banking systems
o Payment engines
o Digital channels and middleware
o Data platforms and regulatory reporting systems

Delivery & Agile Collaboration
Collaborate with Product Owners to refine epics, features, and user stories.
Write clear, testable user stories with acceptance criteria that reflect both business and technical needs.
Support sprint ceremonies (backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos).
Clarify requirements for development teams during implementation and testing phases.

Data & Migration Support
Support data migration and data quality activities, including:
o Legacy-to-target data mapping
o Validation rules
o Reconciliation logic
Assist with defining cutover and transition requirements during core banking migrations.

Testing & Validation
Define functional and integration test scenarios.
Support SIT, UAT, and operational readiness testing.
o Validate that delivered solutions meet:
o Business requirements
o Regulatory obligations
o Non-functional requirements (performance, resilience, auditability)

Stakeholder & Vendor Engagement
Act as a key interface between:
o Business users
o IT and engineering teams
o External vendors (core banking providers, payment processors, system integrators)
Challenge vendor solutions constructively to ensure fit-for-purpose outcomes.

Documentation, Knowledge Transfer & Operational Handover

Ensure concise, accurate documentation describing system behaviour, integrations, data impacts, and key business rules.
Conduct clear walkthroughs and knowledge transfer sessions with Technical Operations and Application Support teams.
Support effective handover to BAU, ensuring support teams understand processing flows, dependencies, and common exception scenarios.

Qualifications & Certifications

Bachelor's degree in:
o Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline
o or equivalent professional experience in financial services technology

Business Analysis Certification, such as:
o IIBA CBAP or CCBA
o Diploma in Business Analysis

Agile Certifications such as:
o Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO)

Core Skills and Knowledge:

Banking & Financial Services Experience
o 5+ years' experience as a Business Analyst or Technical Business Analyst in financial services.
o Strong hands-on experience with core banking platforms (e.g., Temenos, Mambu, Thought Machine, Finacle, TCS BaNCS, Flexcube, or equivalent).
o Solid understanding of banking products and accounting principles.
o Experience supporting regulatory change and compliance-driven initiatives.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of:
o API-driven architectures
o Microservices and event-based integration
o Data models and relational databases
Ability to read and interpret:
o API specifications (Swagger/OpenAPI)
o Sequence diagrams
o Data schemas
Familiarity with cloud-based architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP) is highly desirable.

Delivery & Methodology
o Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments.
o Comfortable working in large-scale transformation or multi-year core banking programs.
