Location: The role can be undertaken remotely within the UK, with occasional travel for away days and meetings

We are an independent, non-profit organisation responsible for the Retail Energy Code — a key part of how the GB retail energy market is regulated.

What you’ll be doing

As data and digitalisation becomes increasingly important in the running of the energy industry, we need an IT professional who can complement our emerging internal technical capability to support delivery of the RECCo digitalisation strategy. The role will help drive forward projects and initiatives to positively improve the RECCo functions and services.

This is an opportunity to enhance skills on the job through real-life execution of projects and support of colleagues.

Your Responsibilities

  • Identify and define technical project requirements and standards alongside colleagues and across industry, ensuring alignment to RECCo architectural principles
  • Provide architectural oversight of project delivery, ensuring solutions are aligned to agreed designs, standards, and non-functional requirements
  • Work collaboratively with multiple service providers across multi-party teams to foster partnership, ensuring alignment to agreed architectural designs and standards
  • Support technical partner procurement, onboarding, and provide architectural input into the assurance of solution delivery
  • Develop and deploy Proof-of-Concept applications
  • Translate user journeys and business requirements into clear, scalable technical solution designs
  • Support the design and deployment of cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring scalability, resilience, and security are considered
  • Collaboratively develop frameworks, processes and tools that support a risk-based approach within RECCo and our partners, with a focus on technical assurance
  • Work with the Enterprise Architect to realise RECCo’s strategy through delivery of a secure, open and scalable architecture
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and procedures as part our continuous improvement approach
  • Create and maintain technical architecture and design documentation for internal systems and external projects, ensuring traceability to requirements
  • Supporting governance design where tech dependencies exist
  • Challenge and support partners to fairly assess the technology in use and proposed for future use.
  • Have an appreciation of new developments in R&D activities in digital technology areas.
  • Be a champion for technology solving industry in RECCo and beyond
  • Providing technical SME input into industry engagements and consultations.

About You

  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • 8 years' experience in IT analysis and/or development.
  • Knowledge, understanding and practical experience working with various technologically independent architectures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex problems, manage risk, and simplify appropriately for the audience.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships quickly with partner organisations.
  • Experience in agile software development
  • Self-motivated and demonstrate initiative
  • Ability to communicate highly technical matters to non-technical decision-makers
  • A combination of tenacity and patience to drive change in a regulated, multi-user market

Ideally, knowledge of:

  • The energy industry
  • RESTful APIs and OAuth/OpenID Connect
  • Docker and Kubernetes
  • Development experience with Python, Go, HTML, CSS and Javascript
  • API Gateways
  • Cyber security
