Software Engineering Manager
Software Manager (SC Cleared)
Location: Andover / Bristol (2 days onsite per week)
Contract: Outside IR35
Rate: £400 per day
Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance required (must be current)
My client is seeking an experienced Software Manager to lead the administration, optimisation, and ongoing evolution of a secure software delivery environment supporting complex, mission-critical engineering programmes. This is a hands-on leadership role combining software platform management, DevSecOps enablement, governance, and stakeholder coordination across secure delivery teams.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the software delivery ecosystem
Software Platform Management
- Lead the setup, administration, and continuous improvement of software engineering platforms and toolchains, including Git-based repositories, CI/CD pipelines, and artifact management systems.
- Manage user onboarding
- Ensure platform availability
- Support containerised and cloud-native environments using technologies such as Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift.
- Oversee integrations with observability and monitoring tooling including Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and related platforms.
DevSecOps & Automation
- Drive automation initiatives using Terraform, Ansible, Bash, Python, or similar scripting technologies.
- Support secure build, test, and deployment pipelines across development teams.
- Implement vulnerability remediation, patching, and configuration management practices.
Governance & Compliance
- Maintain audit trails, governance documentation, and operational standards.
- Ensure software environments align with secure engineering, accreditation, and compliance frameworks.
- Support secure software development practices
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for platform and tooling issues.
- Collaborate with software engineers, architects, security teams, and programme stakeholders.
Support roadmap development
Required Experience
- Strong background administering GitLab, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Nexus, or similar CI/CD platforms.
- Experience with DevOps automation, infrastructure-as-code, and secure platform administration.
- Strong knowledge of Linux systems
Desirable
- Experience working on UK Defence, government, or other secure programmes.
- Knowledge of secure accreditation, governance, and operational assurance processes.
